1 Comments ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE KILLERS AT VAL DE VIE!

Article written by the brilliant danbaileyuk on the 30 Nov 2009 , in the Daniel Bailey category

In following on from my posts about the Killers concerts here in SA, see below all the info you need to know for this coming Sundays concert – I’ll be on a 60 seater bus going out at lunch time and hitting golden circle, see you there!

On Sunday 6th December 2009, the highly anticipated US band, THE KILLERS, will be rocking the Val de Vie Wine and Polo Estate in the Paarl/Franschhoek Valley. In keeping with international standards the organisers (BIG Concerts) have invested a great deal of time and effort in order to ensure that both fans and nearby residents enjoys a hassle-free experience. Every conceivable logistical challenge has been considered, from traffic management to the general safety and security of patrons and alleviating actions have been put in place.

In order to facilitate the success of this event, the organisers have appealed for fans attending the event to be especially aware of the traffic challenges that are inevitable when managing an event of this size. In particular fans are advised of the following:

  • Sharing of rides (i.e. car-pooling) is encouraged. The more people we have in each car the less pressure there will be on traffic entering and exiting the venue. (and besides it reduces your carbon emissions)
  • Fans are advised to arrive at the venue as early as possible in order to prevent pressure on the roads approaching the estate. Gates are scheduled to open at 16:00.
  • No concert tickets shall be available for sale at the venue and should fans not have pre-purchased a ticket they are advised not to come through in the hope of securing one;
  • The show will be over by 22:30 and the traffic volumes are expected to have eased by midnight;
  • Safe and secure parking facilities have been made available on the estate. Clear signage from the approaching arterial roads will be visible indicating the entrance to the parking area. A map detailing the suggested approach routes will be made available online at www.heineken.co.za or www.kfm.co.za.
  • Every effort has been made to minimize the discomfort that nearby residents of Val de Vie may experience as a consequence of this event, and we feel comfortable that even if some hiccup might occur, the overall experience will be a positively memorable one.

1 Comments The first and only virus program I wrote…

Article written by the brilliant danbaileyuk on the 19 Nov 2009 , in the Daniel Bailey category

Back in the day when we were still on 486′s and we were just getting our first VGA or if we were lucky SVGA monitor and we were waiting for Windows 95 to come out I made my first and only virus program with a mate.

What it would do – FORMAT YOUR ENTIRE PC!

How we did it – we took format.com and renamed it after some new game like ‘bomberman’ or something, so it became ‘bomberman.com’

The Problem – when you ran format.com it needed a drive to format like ‘format c:’ and also when it was running it would say ‘formatting c: 1% complete’ and show the progress.

The solution – we edited the format.com file and found the wording for ‘formatting’ and changed it to ‘installing’

And bingo we had a nice little program that would wipe your computer clean, we then gave it to a ‘friend’ of ours and said it was this awesome new game.

Lets just say it the virus worked!

Haven’t tried to make another once since but maybe one day…

2 Comments Friday Funny – The AUSTRALIAN VASECTOMY

Article written by the brilliant danbaileyuk on the 04 Sep 2009 , in the Daniel Bailey category

After having their 11th child, an Australian couple decided that that was enough, as they couldn’t afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his doctor and told him that he and his wife didn’t want to have any more children.The doctor told him there was a procedure called a vasectomy that would fix the problem but it was expensive.

A less costly alternative was to go home, get a large firecracker, light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.

The husband said to the doctor, “I may not be the smartest guy in the world, but I don’t see how putting a firework in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me with my problem.”

“Trust me, it will do the job”, said the doctor.

So the man went home, lit a cracker and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count: “1, 2, 3, 4, 5,”at which point he paused, placing the beer can between his legs so he could continue counting on his other hand.

This procedure also works in New Zealand and Tasmania.

1 Comments Kasabian – Fire – Filmed here in South Africa

Article written by the brilliant danbaileyuk on the 17 Aug 2009 , in the Daniel Bailey category

Just heard this on 5fm that the awesome new song by Kasabian – Fire was filmed about 150km outside of Cape Town. The band wanted the look of an old small US town and apparently it was cheaper to come to SA to get that look.

This follows Snow Patrol also doing a music video here in Cape Town after they recently toured SA. Awesomeness for SA!

0 Comments What a thing of beauty, the new Ferrari 458 Italia

Article written by the brilliant danbaileyuk on the 28 Jul 2009 , in the Daniel Bailey category

The new Ferrari 458 Italia berlinetta was unveiled this week and WOW I want one now! Image the girls down in Camps Bay, they would come running out of Caprice and line up to see who could get in… or they would just be blond and all try at once… who knows!

Anyway, its the successor to the F430, but the 458 Italia is only the new entry-level V8 in Ferrari’s range – I promise I won’t complain if I have to take the entry level model!

You can read more about it here.
